Nottingham-based insurance broker, Russell Scanlan, located in Wellington Circus, has announced its chosen charity of the year as Hope Nottingham.
The charity, which has been operating for 13 years, currently has two permanent community centres – Hope House in Beeston and Carlton Community Hub. It hosts a range of weekly events and activities, such as toddler stay and play sessions, job searching guidance, a community food club for locals, befriending and companionship groups, and an allotment, open to both volunteers and groups, the produce of which goes to the food club.
Alongside this, Hope Nottingham, which holds the Trussell Trust Franchise, also has 14 food banks located in the city including, Wollaton and Radford, which aim to help the people of Nottingham who are experiencing financial difficulties, especially during the cost-of-living crisis.
The insurance broker and its employees are keen to make a real difference not only by fundraising, which will help the charity purchase essential items needed for the donation parcels, but by getting involved and lending a helping hand at the community centres.
Hope Nottingham was voted by the team at Russell Scanlan as their charity of the year after one of its employees voiced that the charity helps their blind elderly relative, acting as a companion.

Although the charity has been running for a long time and has an established presence in Nottingham, the support needed to keep their vital services going is ever-growing. We hope that with our support and platform that we’ll raise a significant amount of money to help fund the organisations initiatives, and emergency services for those in need.”
This marks the eleventh consecutive year that the company has fundraised for a charitable cause or organisation, typically within Nottinghamshire.
Last year, Russell Scanlan supported a national charity, YoungMinds, after seeing how the pandemic had a negative impact on a vast number of children and young people’s mental health.
Bryan added: “We’re currently planning some more exciting fundraising events that’ll take place throughout the year and we’ll be giving our own time to help out at Hope House. All the information on our upcoming events and activities supporting Hope Nottingham will be posted on our website and social media channels.”
Already, Callum Whiting, Commercial Account Handler at Russell Scanlan has volunteered to take on a sponsored skydive. 2023 will also see the return of the infamous charity quiz night held at the Nottinghamshire Cricket Ground, Trent Bridge.

Last year, Hope Nottingham, reported that its emergency food services were used 21,526 times of which 7,873 of those were children who had been referred to one of their food banks.
