WALSALL, WEST MIDLANDS - June 2, 2026

A Walsall-based engineering and manufacturing business is set to increase its operational capacity after securing a £6,000 grant from Walsall Business Support to invest in new materials handling equipment.

HES (Midlands) Limited was originally founded in 1982 as Holland Engineering Services and was acquired in February 2011, forming the current company following the retirement of the original founding partners.

The business specialises in medium to high volume metal pressings and robotic welded assemblies, as well as producing prototypes, CNC machined components, and toolmaking services for the automotive, rail, building and furniture sectors.

The grant will be used to purchase a new 3000kg capacity forklift truck, replacing the company’s previous 1500kg model and significantly increasing its handling capability.

Michael Skinner, Co-Director of HES (Midlands) Limited, said: “We recognised the need to upgrade our materials handling capability and the grant from Walsall Business Support has made that possible.

“The new forklift will double our capacity and allow us to safely manage heavier tooling and larger steel coils, which is essential for the new projects we have coming through in 2026 and 2027. It will make a real difference to how efficiently we can operate as we continue to grow.”

Led by leading business figures to distribute funds collected from the legacy of Walsall Chamber of Commerce, Walsall Business Support funds projects to enhance the borough’s economy.

Walsall Business Support board member, John Punch, said: “We are pleased to support HES (Midlands) as they invest in new equipment to strengthen their operations. Their focus on innovation, efficiency and long-term growth is a great example of the high-quality manufacturing businesses we have here in Walsall.”
