Ground engineering expert expands into Southern California

Geobear opens new offices in Los Angeles and San Diego to address subsidence issues

To address settlement issues across Southern California, geotechnical contractor Geobear has opened two new offices in Los Angeles County and San Diego County. This expansion will serve the rising demand for Geobear’s non-invasive geopolymer injection technology, which represents a faster and safer alternative to traditional underpinning and piling. The new locations are especially important in California, where subsidence threatens as many as eight million people.

The demand for Geobear’s technology, developed in Finland over 40 years ago, has steadily increased in the U.S. since the company opened its first office in Orange County in 2023. Since then, Geobear has served hundreds of customers in the region, addressing settlement issues in both residential and commercial properties.

Geobear’s ground improvement technology uses a purpose-designed geopolymer injected into the soil beneath affected structures. This process stabilises and strengthens the ground, eliminating the need for heavy machinery or invasive excavation.

Unlike traditional underpinning or piling methods, which can disrupt daily activities and damage landscaping, Geobear’s treatment is efficiently completed in a short time frame. Typically, this process is completed in less than a day for homes and two days for larger commercial properties.

“Our geopolymer technology allows property owners to address settlement issues without the inconvenience of vacating their properties or altering their surroundings,” said Dante Miller, Geobear’s U.S. Director. “This is particularly useful for property owners who need quick, effective, and minimally disruptive solutions to protect their investments”.

Settlement issues in homes and commercial buildings often arise due to soil conditions, which can be affected by factors such as heavy rainfall, improper drainage, or insufficient soil compaction during construction. Common warning signs include cracks in walls, uneven floors, or gaps between floors and baseboards.

With its expansion into Los Angeles and San Diego, Geobear is making its ground improvement technology more accessible to homeowners, businesses and infrastructure projects across Southern California.
