Golden celebrations mark milestone at Aberdeenshire HQ

Macphie toasts to 50 years at Glenbervie with tasty staff do

A WORLD-RENOWNED ingredients manufacturer has celebrated 50 years since moving to rural Aberdeenshire by celebrating with hundreds of its team.

Macphie invited 360 attendees which included employees, families, and friends to come together to commemorate half a century since its pivotal transition from Glasgow to Glenbervie.

The company’s move to Glenbervie laid the foundations and marked its transition from bakery wholesaler to internationally renowned ingredients manufacturer – now creating products and ingredients for some of the world’s biggest food brands.

The major staff celebration comes alongside the family-owned firm’s recent pledge to donate £50,000 to charities and community groups across Scotland to mark the milestone year.

Andy Stapley, Macphie’s CEO said: “This year is another important year for everyone at Macphie as well as the wider community – our celebrations were a fantastic way to celebrate that and reflect on the past 50 years.

“We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for our hard-working and dedicated team behind us, so the 50th anniversary party was a moment to mark everyone’s efforts in helping build the firm to what it is today.”

Marking the occasion, guests were welcomed to the HQ and treated to a BBQ and performances from caricaturists, magicians and saxophone players.

Originally founded in 1928 in Glasgow, the company later relocated to Glenbervie, near Stonehaven, in 1973, it has since grown to have 250 employees with revenues of over £60m.

Andy added: “It was important to us not only to mark the occasion with a celebration for those that play an important part in Macphie’s day-to-day, but also for the community too.

“We’re hoping that by donating £50,000 across community initiatives and charity projects in the area, we’re ensuring that we give back to the area that has welcomed us with open arms and supported us along the way.

“It is a milestone year for Macphie and an important time for the company, we have grown significantly in the past 5 decades and it’s especially exciting to think about where we will be in the next 50 years.”

The game-changing move to Glenbervie in the seventies came alongside forward-thinking sustainability initiatives by Macphie. In 1974, Macphie began treating the effluent at the Glenbervie site to be used in a sustainable way, which marked the start of an impressive green journey for the food firm – now the site features its very own wind turbines to power the factory sustainably.

Sustainability is a key element of the fourth-generation family firm’s philosophy: it was among Scotland’s first businesses to achieve B Corp status in 2015, having successfully demonstrated an unwavering high standard of social and environmental performance.

Macphie Ltd is now an internationally renowned ingredients manufacturer established in 1928, which manufactures a wide range of products including cake mixes and savoury sauces, as well as offering plant-based and gluten-free options.

Its vision is to be the go-to partner for food brands around the world, turning ideas and creativity into practical solutions. Its passion for making life easier for chefs and bakers is reflected in its “simply clever” strapline.
