Free Community Food Festival invites press and TV to capture a fresh approach to public health and community inclusion in Walsall
A free Community Food Festival will take place at Ryecroft Community Hub, Walsall, on Saturday 9 May, bringing together food, movement, creativity and practical health education in a celebration-style event designed to make healthy living more accessible, enjoyable and inclusive.
Hosted by Rizon Health Ltd through its non-profit Bloom+ project, the event moves away from traditional clinical health settings and creates a welcoming space where local people can connect, learn and take part in fun, practical activities.
Local press, photographers and TV crews are warmly invited to attend and cover the day.
The event is expected to bring together 200 community members, supported by 75 volunteers from the local community, our official partner the University of Leeds, and Studio School.
Visitors can expect:
- Free healthy food for all.
- Practical nutrition education – codesigned by Leeds University.
- A nutrition-themed Snakes and Ladders game
- A cultural food scavenger hunt
- Flower-arranging accredited therapy.
- Vegetable patch planting
- An all-ability disco fitess class
- Community stalls and signposting to local support
- Opportunities to win cash vouchers, with £600 worth of vouchers available
The festival is designed to support people affected by cost-of-living pressures, disability, social isolation, cultural underrepresentation or limited access to traditional health services.
Rather than focusing on lectures or clinical advice, the event uses food, movement, creativity and shared experiences as a gateway to improved wellbeing.
Daniel Essom, Chief Executive of Rizon Health Ltd, said:
“We wanted to create something that feels completely different from a traditional health intervention. This festival is about bringing people together through food, culture, movement and creativity, while offering practical education and support in a way that feels welcoming, enjoyable and community-led.”
