The issue will be explored at the Scottish Homebuilding & Renovating Shows, returning to the SEC, Glasgow on 9–10 May 2026 and The Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh on 3 – 4 October 2026 where experts will share advice on how to design extensions that improve both space and value.
Property expert Michael Holmes, who will be speaking at the show, says many homeowners focus on adding space without thinking about how the extension will function.
Holmes said:
“Many people commit to layouts, heating systems or contractors too early and only
discover the consequences later when costs rise or comfort is poor. Good, well-informed decisions at the start, based on research or expert advice, can save tens of thousands of pounds and dramatically improve how a home performs.”

Professional design advice early in the project can help avoid costly structural changes later.
