Europa Air & Sea Announces First Dutch Base

Dartford-headquartered Europa Air & Sea has announced its second investment of the year. The operator is now expanding its service into continental Europe.

The opening of a new strategically located office in Rotterdam, Netherlands, follows Europa Air & Sea’s plans for a new team in Delhi, India.

This continued investment demonstrates how Europa, which has a UK base on Albion Road in Dartford, is setting the pace in the market. The company began this investment with the launch of Europa Air & Sea in Shanghai and Dubai in 2022.

The new team will be based at Marten Meesweg in Rotterdam, with dedicated handlers for shipments destined for locations across the world. This venture confirms the continued importance of the Netherlands as a hub in the international air and sea freight market.

The quantity of freight passing through the Port of Rotterdam remains virtually unchanged when compared with 2021, despite the impact of the global economic downturn and the war in Ukraine. This demonstrates the resilience of Rotterdam as a global hub.

Angus Hind, Europa Air & Sea Director, comments: “The consistency of performance of the Port of Rotterdam under a uniquely challenging set of trading conditions shows its importance across a broad spectrum of sectors.

“This is an important step forward for Europa Air & Sea as we continue our global expansion. It’s vital that we base our operations in locations with both strong air and sea links, and Rotterdam is no exception.

“As well as Rotterdam and other ports within the Netherlands, ready access is available to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport – one of Europe’s busiest for both passenger and freight aircraft. Dutch air freight is very much on the up at the moment and we believe this will continue.” m/f

A recent article by ING stated that Dutch aviation had recovered more strongly than anticipated during 2022 with passenger and freight volumes this year to around 95 per cent of the level in 2019 – the last full pre-Covid year.

“This is welcome and significant news given the impact of the Ukraine war and correspondingly lower levels of air freight coming through Schiphol from Russia,” added Angus.

Since launching as a separate division in 2015, Europa Air & Sea has gone from strength to strength. Currently the division has teams located across the UK, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Dubai.

Europa is one of the largest privately owned transport and logistics companies in the UK, with a growing footprint across the globe.

The firm continues to invest heavily in both its corporate and operational capabilities right across the business. By developing the process and systems which exemplify the personal service which Europa prides itself on and underpinning these with the right technology to optimise efficiencies, the Group strives to enhance its commercial resilience.

Europa Worldwide Group is an ambitious independent logistics operator with three divisions, Europa Road, Europa Air & Sea, and Europa Warehouse, and has been featured in The Sunday Times Top Track 250 for three years. Europa has invested £5 million in its innovative market-leading product, Europa Flow, providing a frictionless flow of goods between the EU and the UK post Brexit. The group employs over 1,400 people with 29 international sites in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, Europe, Hong Kong, China and the UAE. The global operator recently reported a record turnover of £302m for the last 12 months, as of August 2022, and remains on track with its ambitious investment programme.
