David Wilson Homes Site Managers in Staffordshire recognished as best in the country

Three site managers at David Wilson Homes’ developments across Staffordshire have each won a top national award for the quality of the homes he is building.

Alex Price (31), Dean Newbold (49) and Josh Groom (32) have won Pride in the Job Quality Awards from the National House Building Council (NHBC). These prestigious awards are known as the “Oscars of the housebuilding industry”.

In total, Barratt Developments’ site managers have won 98 Pride in the Job Quality Awards, which is more than any other housebuilder. This is the 18th year in a row that site managers from Barratt Developments have won more of these awards than any other builder, underlining the long-term commitment David Wilson Homes has to building high quality properties.

Alex Price, originally from Stoke-on-Trent, has been overseeing Bentley Fields in Uttoxeter for the past three years, but has been working for David Wilson Homes for just under 15 years in total. This is Alex’s fifth Pride in the Job Quality Award, and he also has a Seal of Excellence Award to his name.

Reflecting on his latest award, Alex said: “With Bentley Fields nearly sold out, it’s fantastic to receive this award towards the end of our time on site. Working in Uttoxeter has been a delight, the consistency of the team has been outstanding and overcoming the challenges set by the site has been very rewarding.”

Dean Newbold, Senior Site Manager at Anson Gardens, will be hitting the landmark of having worked for David Wilson Homes for a decade later this year. In that time, Dean has won an impressive five Pride in the Job Quality Awards, three Seal of Excellence Awards and was also named parent company Barratt Developments’ Site Manager of the Year in 2019.

On his award, Dean said: “I’m incredibly proud to be winning this award again, the feeling doesn’t change. Although this is an individual award, it would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Anson Gardens.

“When I first moved to the development there was a lot to get used to – both in terms of the site itself and the entirely new team – but everyone came together to create an incredible environment for our customers. A huge thank you goes to my wife as well, who is always by my side and helping me push on.”

The third and final award-winner in Staffordshire is Josh Groom, who has tasted Pride in the Job success for the very first time. Josh has been working for David Wilson Homes for a little over three years, with half of that time spent at the helm of Heron’s Reach at Dunstall Park in Tamworth.

Josh said: “It’s a brilliant feeling to win this award; it’s what all site managers strive for. From the first to the last home, the consistently high standards of the team and the properties built are a huge contributing factor to winning this award. An extra thanks goes to my assistant, Tom Broome, who has been a fantastic asset to the entire team at Heron’s Reach.”

The Pride in the Job Awards showcase the best site managers in the country who can demonstrate exceptional standards in building new communities, delivering the highest quality homes for their customers. Each site manager is judged on a range of key criteria including health and safety, their technical knowledge, customer service and attention to detail.

Every site manager who is registered with the NHBC is automatically entered into the awards, with just 450 winners being selected from over 11,000 entrants.

The awards also help to build quality standards across both developments and teams, with winning site managers invariably having an assistant site manager working with them. They in turn learn the high standards that are needed to win, increasing quality throughout the industry.

Dominic Harman, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We want to make our customers happy by building high quality homes for them. These awards recognise only the best new homes and well-run developments and we are very proud of our record having won more of these awards than any other housebuilder for 18 years in a row.

“Every customer who buys a home built by a site manager who has won a Pride in the Job Quality award can have confidence that their home is of the highest possible quality.”

These awards closely follow Barratt Developments being awarded five stars by its customers for satisfaction in the annual Home Builders Federation (HBF) new homes survey. To be rated five star means that more than 90% of its customers would recommend one of its homes to a friend, with the developer being the only major national housebuilder to be rated five star for 13 years in a row.
