Press Release

UK - April 21, 2026

Blackpool-based Trident Utilities has been awarded Great Place to Work Certification after 96 per cent of its employees consider it an excellent workplace.

The energy and net-zero consultancy which supports high-energy users to control costs, maintain compliance and take steps to net-zero, scored well above the national average of 54 per cent satisfaction, putting it among the top five Great Place to Work professional consultancy businesses in the UK.

Through anonymous feedback into workplace culture, employee experience and leadership behaviours, 89 per cent of staff said they could be themselves at work, felt a full member of the team regardless of position, and wanted to stay with the company for a long time.

Staff also felt able to question management, understood expectations and felt managers recognised honest mistakes as being part of running a business.

Michael Dugdale, managing director of Trident, said: “Our people are our greatest asset and the key to our success. Over the last 25 years we’ve worked hard to support our team and give them the opportunity to grow and progress in their career.

“We’ve invested in wellbeing and we’re proud that 13 team members are actively involved in initiatives such as Mental Health First Aider, Orange Button and Six Connections. This award is external recognition of that and our commitment to creating a supportive, positive culture and workplace.”

He added: “But certification isn’t the end goal. It’s proof our foundation is strong and we’ll keep evolving our culture dedicated to trust and fairness to make Trident an even better place to work every day.”

Two members of the team are currently completing the Orange Button Community Scheme having received specialised suicide prevention training so they can signpost to relevant services.

Staff who are having thoughts of suicide, or who are worried about a friend or family member, can now “push the button” when they see these colleagues wearing the distinctive orange badge, and ask them for information and support.

This is in addition to the team’s Mental Health First Aiders and people who have completed Six Connections training to reduce stigma and make conversations about mental health in the workplace more comfortable.

Alex Mottershead, head of procurement and supplier services, said: “I love working here and feel part of the whole team. Everyone has challenges in their life at some point so it’s great to know there are colleagues who can help and that the company is supportive whatever that issue might be. It’s part of what makes it such a great place to work alongside the many fun social events and training.”
