Press Release

Black Mountain, NC - March 31, 2026

The Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming spring sessions of Music Together® and the debut of Rhythm Kids®, beginning the week of April 13. Hosted in partnership with Asheville Area Music Together, these eight-week programs offer an inclusive, research-based musical journey for children from birth to age 8.

“Our mission is to bring the arts to the people and people to the arts,” says BMCA Programs Coordinator, Claire K. Landis. “By introducing these high-energy, developmentally appropriate programs, we are ensuring that even our youngest neighbors can begin their own creative journey in a welcoming, community-centered environment.”

Music Together®: The Maracas Collection (Ages Birth–3)

Designed for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them®, this class turns “play” into a primary teacher. Participants will explore rhythmic patterns and tonal melodies through singing, dancing, and instrument play.

  • Mondays: April 13 – June 1, 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM
  • Thursdays: April 16 – June 4, 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM
  • Focus: Building basic music competence while supporting cognitive and emotional growth.

Rhythm Kids®: The Jaguar Collection (Ages 4–8)

This immersive program is perfect for the maturing music-maker. Utilizing the djembe drum, students will master complex rhythms inspired by global traditions, strengthening leadership and collaborative skills along the way.

  • Mondays: April 13 – June 1, 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM
  • Focus: Transitioning from basic play to intentional skill-building and independence.

Registration & Tuition Tuition for the 8-week journey is $185, which includes all necessary supplies for the family. Residents of the Swannanoa Valley and surrounding areas are encouraged to register early to secure their spot.
