The Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) is excited to announce its 2026 Summer Camp lineup, offering a wide range of engaging, arts-based camps designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and spark imagination in children and teens. Running from late June through mid-August, BMCA’s summer camps provide families in the Swannanoa Valley and beyond with high-quality, enriching experiences in dance, theater, visual art, storytelling, and tabletop role-playing games.
BMCA’s 2026 camps serve students ages 3–17 and are led by experienced teaching artists and educators who prioritize creativity, collaboration, and joyful learning. With half-day and full-day options available, families can choose camps that best fit their schedules while ensuring children stay active, curious, and connected throughout the summer.
“We design our summer camps to be more than just childcare,” said a BMCA Program Manager, Claire Landis. “Each camp is an immersive experience where kids can explore the arts, build friendships, and discover new interests in a supportive and inspiring environment.”
Highlights of the 2026 summer camp season include:
Dungeons & Dragonslayers Camp, led by professional Dungeon Master and game designer Mike Yow, invites campers ages 10–17 to step into an epic tabletop role-playing adventure. Participants create original characters, explore imaginative worlds, and develop collaboration, storytelling, and problem-solving skills. No prior experience is required, making the camp accessible to both beginners and seasoned players.
Book & a Brush Summer Camp blends literature and visual art for campers ages 5–10. Led by an experienced educator, this full-day camp encourages children to explore stories through painting, printmaking, building, and collage. Each day begins with a shared story that inspires hands-on artmaking while subtly reinforcing reading, math, science, and social studies concepts.
BMCA’s popular Dance, Sing & Play Camps return with themed sessions for preschool and elementary-aged dancers. These camps combine movement, music, and imaginative play to help young performers develop coordination, confidence, and creative expression. Preschool themes include Beach Boogie, Adventure Awaits, Dance Mode, and Super Squad, while elementary campers can enjoy Groove & Glow, Broadway Beats, Pop-2-K, and Level-Up.
All camps emphasize age-appropriate instruction, creative exploration, and a welcoming atmosphere where every child can thrive. Multi-camp and sibling discounts are available, and all supplies are included unless otherwise noted.
