Australia – 4 September 2025

PKD Australia proudly celebrates the conclusion of its 2025 KICK PKD campaign, a nationwide fundraising effort that has united Australians in extraordinary acts of courage, creativity, and compassion to fight Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).

Over the past three months, everyday heroes from across the country have stepped up to raise vital funds and awareness for PKD – a life-altering genetic condition affecting over 25,000 Australians, with no known cure.

From piano performances to endurance feats, their stories are as inspiring as they are impactful:

  • Yvonne in Newcastle hosted a piano soirée for her neighbours, playing their favourite songs in exchange for donations.
  • Stephen in Adelaide ran, walked (and crawled) 250 kilometres in July – one kilometre for every Aussie living with PKD.
  • Dan in Sydney cooked twelve kidney-friendly recipes over twelve weeks, sharing tips and hope with the PKD community.
  • Emily in Melbourne rallied her university peers for a campus walk in solidarity.
  • And Jacob in Tasmania is preparing for an epic Everesting Challenge on 4 September – climbing 8,848 metres by bike in a single day to mark PKD Awareness Day.

“These challenges reflect the incredible heart of the PKD community,” said Helen Coolican, Chair of the PKD Australia Board. “Every person who took part in KICK PKD this year is helping to drive change – not just through fundraising, but through storytelling and solidarity.”

Despite its impact, PKD remains under-recognised in Australia. The 2025 campaign may be wrapping up, but the fight for awareness, research, and support continues.
