Accountancy firm expands following acquisition

AN ACCOUNTANCY firm has expanded after acquiring a well-established company in Somerset.

Della Hudson of Minerva Accountants Bristol and Somerset now heads the combined company, which includes the practice formerly known as Longhill Accounting.

Della, who has been a chartered accountant for 30 years, became interested in the Shepton Mallet based firm due to shared values and vision.

The award-winning author, speaker and business coach, who also has a base in Henleaze, Bristol, said: “I wanted to expand our offerings and this was an ideal opportunity to do so – as they had similar experience, outlook and values.”

‘Very capable’ and ‘a good fit’

Della, a mum-of-two teenagers, set up her business from her kitchen table in 2009 because she was unable to find a company offering flexitime after having children.

She has since founded two practices, sold a profitable business, and written three books to help entrepreneurs build a profitable business.

Chris Thring, who set up Longhill Accounting with his wife, Maria, decided to step back to semi retire and pursue other interests.

He said: “I’ve enjoyed the work for the last 16 years and am essentially part retiring. I’m confident clients are in good hands, as Della is a very capable and a good fit.

“Della has considerable experience of running a small practice and understands the needs of small businesses. Della is also known to several of my professional contacts and they have given her glowing references.”

Supporting small businesses

Longhill Accounting was set up to support small businesses and trades in industries such as property development, environmental consultancy, construction and retail.

Chris and Maria had previously received several offers to take on the business but had refused on grounds of suitability – until Della got in touch.

Maria, who qualified with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in 2000, will continue as accountant and client manager.

Della, who was listed as a top online influencer by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), said: “We are delighted Maria has decided to continue in her role. She will be invaluable in the client transition.”
