One of the Midlands’ leading independent funeral directors, A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, has promoted Company Secretary Chlöe Lymn Rose to the role of Director.
The decision to appoint Chlöe to the company’s Board recognises her selfless dedication during the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw Chlöe working around the clock to ensure funerals could still go ahead during a time when Government guidance was changing daily.
Serving the people of Nottingham for more than 115 years, A.W. Lymn prides itself on its family-run status, with Chlöe joining her father, mother, brother and aunt on the board of Directors.
Chlöe started working for A.W. Lymn in 1998 before studying Genetics at Leeds University. After completing her degree, Chlöe moved to Barclays Bank to gain experience in the financial world. She soon progressed and her work was recognised as she won a national competition within the bank and was sent on a trip to the USA. Upon her return, Chlöe’s talent and ability with the company’s IT system saw her promoted to oversee these functions in her department until she returned to join the team at A.W. Lymn in 2005.
On the appointment, Chlöe said: “To be made a Director is an absolute honour. I am excited to come into a role where I can further support the business and our wonderful local community.”
Entering the position with extensive experience in the funeral industry, Chlöe played a vital role in each and every Nottingham funeral throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. It was partly because of her unwavering dedication to ensure that the industry adhered to best practice and guidelines that the city never had a backlog of funerals.
Chlöe’s understanding of events and subsequent influence on practices within the business was paramount during the pandemic, which meant that the Local Resilience Forum (a multi-agency partnership made up of representatives from local public services) and local City Council met with Chlöe to seek guidance in handling pandemic funerals.
Chlöe commented: “I hope to continue to be a driving force in creating positive and reactive change in the industry, consulting with other funeral professionals and Government to make the right decisions to best support families.”
Chlöe is also the Secretary of The Nottingham, Derby and District Funeral Directors Association, the local National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) group. She has supported Nigel Lymn Rose, Chairman of the company and great-grandson of its founder Arthur William Lymn, in orchestrating nationwide legislation for the NAFD on conducting funerals safely.

“When Covid struck, Chlöe worked tirelessly to ensure funeral directors within A.W. She often worked 12-hour days, taking on a lead role in driving the change to ensure funeral directors were acknowledged as key workers – meaning they had access to vaccinations – and to keep the A.W. Lymn team and the communities we serve safe.”

Lymn is a fifth-generation family business headquartered in Sneinton, Nottingham and has been helping the bereaved in the region for more than 115 years, with quality of service and value for money at the heart of its ethos. It employs over 120 staff and operates 27 funeral homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
