A care home in Edgbaston is celebrating after being highly commended in the Care Home Awards, 2023.
Care UK’s Metchley Manor, on Church Road, was highly commended in the ‘Best for Wellbeing’ category at this year’s Care Home Awards, which recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery.
The home was recognised for ensuring residents have plenty of choices in every part of their care. Judges noted that residents at Metchley Manor live full and happy lives through a person-centred approach to care, which creates meaningful and enjoyable wellbeing and lifestyle activities. This includes tailoring activities and trips out to residents’ interests, which recently has included visits to the ballet and football stadiums.
More recently, team members planned an Eid celebration for all of the residents to enjoy. This involved arranging Bollywood dancers to visit, and a special, Eid-inspired menu prepared by the catering team.
The home was also applauded for growing its own produce, with herbs and vegetables planted and looked after by residents and the team in the sensory garden, which is part of the home’s reminiscence suite for residents living with dementia.
Sian, a resident at Metchley Manor said, “We have debate club, quiz club, karaoke and poetry club that are tailored according to the choices of the residents. We have organised minibus trips to the ballet, West Bromwich Albion FC and cafes that residents have chosen.”
Kim-Marie Newton, General Manager at Metchley Manor, added: “We’re delighted to have been highly commended for an award in this year’s Care Home Awards. It’s a testament to the incredibly hard work of our catering and lifestyle teams, who ensure that there are always activities on offer each day.
“I’m so proud of what we achieve every day here at Metchley Manor and the fantastic team who help make Metchley Manor a great place to call home. It’s fantastic that everyone’s hard work has been recognised nationally.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Metchley Manor incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
