No doomscrolling. No AI. We’re live, with a story, and a heartbeat shared with others. To Producing Artistic Director Helen R. Murray, that’s the promise of American Stage’s upcoming 2026-2027 season.

“There’s something pretty amazing that happens when people experience a story together,” explains Murray. “Studies even show that during intense moments, audience members’ heart rates can actually sync up. That’s exactly the kind of connection we create.”

With digital fatigue and social isolation increasingly cited by younger generations, in‑person gatherings are the most vital way for people to build genuine social bonds and shared experiences. American Stage has always been here for this very purpose, and is again answering the call. The theater’s 49th season emphasizes personal connection and shared human experience in an increasingly virtual world, with plays ranging from gender-bent classics and world premiers, to beloved musicals and immersive outdoor experiences.

“We’re proud to be a space where people can feel, connect, and share a moment together,” says Murray. “In a world that can feel isolating and lonely, American Stage is the antidote. Life is happening. Join us.”
