Six-Week “Building Blocks” Session Invites Adults of All Backgrounds to Explore Foundational Ballet This Spring
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) is now accepting registrations for Beginner Adult Ballet: Building Blocks, a six-week mini-mester designed for adults exploring ballet for the first time — or returning to it after years away.
Classes meet Wednesdays, 6:00–7:00 PM, from March 11 through April 15 at the BMCA Dance Studio, 225 W. State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711. Tuition for the full session is $85. Pre-registration is required — walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
The course focuses on the fundamentals that make ballet both beautiful and demanding: posture, alignment, turnout, port de bras, and musicality. Each class moves at a pace that invites genuine learning rather than performance pressure — building strength, coordination, and body awareness through structured yet supportive instruction.
“Adults often come to us carrying the idea that ballet is something they missed their chance at,” said Claire Landis, BMCA Program Coordinator and Dance Studio Manager. “This class is about letting go of that. We meet you exactly where you are and build from there.”
The mini-mester format — shorter than a full semester, focused on a single theme — allows students to commit to a meaningful arc of learning without a long-term obligation. BMCA Dance offers similar sessions throughout the year across a range of disciplines and skill levels, serving dancers from toddlers through adults.
Pre-registration is now open, and enrollment is limited. Prospective students are encouraged to register early at blackmountainarts.org/dance/adultclasses
