In celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Education on 24 January, leading educational organisation, BYITC is hosting a FREE English Reading Workshop for children aged 6 to 10 years, in response to an overwhelming level of interest from parents and learners across the community.
The workshop on 24 January, aligns with the UN’s acknowledgement that highlights education as a fundamental human right and a powerful driver of personal and societal development.
BYITC’s initiative reflects this year’s spirit of fostering inclusive, meaningful, and foundational learning experiences for young learners.
Dr Rashmi Mantri, Founder of Glasgow-headquartered BYITC, said: “We have received record levels of interest and enquiries for this event. For the first time, all available slots were filled within minutes of announcing the workshop. With the event taking place on UN’s International Day of Education, this response strongly reinforces the value families place on foundational learning skills like reading.”
The one-hour, highly engaging session is designed to improve reading fluency, expression, and confidence in young learners. The workshop will be open to both current BYITC students and external participants, with enquiries also coming from children enrolled in other courses and subjects.
Dr Mantri added, “This response clearly indicates a strong appetite for such workshops and a genuine interest from the community to participate in initiatives that celebrate learning. We are especially pleased to see interest extending beyond English learners, and we are delighted to be expanding slots to ensure no child misses out.”
Workshop Learning Outcomes Include:
- Improved Pronunciation Accuracy
Children will learn to pronounce common English words and sounds correctly, improving clarity and confidence while reading aloud.
- Correct Use of Punctuation While Reading
Learners will understand how punctuation marks such as full stops, commas, question marks, and exclamation marks, affect pauses, tone, and meaning.
- Effective Word Stress & Sentence Flow
The session will help children read fluently and naturally, rather than word-by-word.
- Expressive Reading Through Emoting & Emphasis
Students will use voice modulation, emotions, and emphasis to bring stories and passages to life.
- Boosted Reading Confidence & Comprehension
By the end of the workshop, children will read aloud with greater confidence and understanding.
All learners will receive certificates of participation at the end of the session.
