LONDON - 13 November 2025

  • 56 per cent of 25-34-year-olds worry an “ugly” home charger could devalue their property
  • 70 per cent of millennial and Gen Z motorists rate the importance of home EV charger aesthetics

New research from premium EV charge point brand Andersen reveals that over half (56 per cent) of millennials fear an unattractive electric vehicle (EV) charger could knock thousands off their house value. The findings highlight how appearance is now a crucial factor in the nation’s shift to home EV charging.

The survey of 1,010 UK motorists found that 70 per cent of millennial and Gen Z drivers rated the look of their home EV charger as important, compared to just 39 per cent of those aged 65 and over. Across all age groups, 50 per cent of motorists agreed that aesthetics matter when it comes to installing a charger at home, signalling a significant shift in attitudes toward home charging design amongst younger generations.

“As EV adoption accelerates, it’s clear that the next generation of homeowners care deeply about design and kerb appeal,” said David Martell, CEO of Andersen. “Millennial and Gen Z motorists don’t just want a charger that performs well, they want one that enhances the appearance and value of their home. That’s why the industry must raise its game, focusing on aesthetics as much as technology.”

Beyond looks, the study found that 79 per cent of 25–34-year-olds would be more likely to buy a property that already has a home EV charger installed, suggesting that well-designed charge points are becoming a selling feature for modern homes. However, utilitarian “black box” designs could have the opposite effect, potentially reducing perceived property value among younger buyers.

To meet this growing demand, Andersen’s design-led chargers are hand-built in the UK and available in over 200 colour and finish combinations, including metal and wooden fascias. The brand’s signature hidden cable technology ensures a sleek, clutter-free look suitable for any home, from ultra-modern to period properties.

Top five findings:

  • 70 per cent of millennial and Gen Z motorists, aged 25–34, say charger appearance is important
  • 50 per cent of motorists agree looks are important for home charge points
  • 56 per cent of 25–34-year-olds fear an “ugly” charger could devalue their home
  • Only 15 per cent disagreed that appearance of a charge point matters
  • 82 per cent of 18–24-year-olds say an existing charger would influence a home purchase
