Press Release

Utrecht, The Netherlands

Today marks the initial launch of the Health AI Register- Pathology with live impending updates; a new clinical domain dedicated to tracking, registering, and promoting transparency in artificial intelligence (AI) tools used in pathology.

A presentation at the 37th European Congress of Pathology in Vienna, Austria marked the official launch of the website which provides a centralized hub for clinicians, researchers, AI developers, and the wider public to access information about AI applications in pathology.

The Pathology Health AI Register is grounded in science and was established in co-operation with Radboudumc and led by PhD researcher Khyrstyna Faryna.

This is the first domain expansion of the platform following the success in radiology. The Health AI Register- Radiology has already established itself as a trusted reference worldwide. Most recently, the European Commission cited the Radiology register in its official report on AI in healthcare, using its market analysis in lieu of the official EUDAMED database. This recognition at the highest policy level underscores the credibility and global relevance of the register, and highlights the importance of transparent, accessible data for the safe adoption of AI in medicine.

“In radiology, having the up-to-date website has empowered many institutions to navigate the market and make more informed purchase decisions.” said Kicky van Leeuwen, Managing Partner at Romion Health. “The registry has received recognition in international clinical guidelines and a recent EU AI clinical deployment report’’; she continues: “From today, pathology professionals can benefit from the same kind of resource.”

By cataloguing commercially available AI systems and their clinical use cases, the website supports safe adoption, fosters accountability, and accelerates innovation in healthcare.

“The AI pathology market is moving quickly, with new approvals in histopathology and cytology as well as growing scientific evidence” said Margaret Horton, Pathology AI Expert at Romion Health. “As new tools emerge and the vendor landscape shifts, the Health AI Register provides labs with a reliable resource to guide smart AI adoption decisions.”

Key features of the website include:

Comprehensive Product Coverage & Filtering

The register currently lists 64 CE-marked AI solutions (and expanding) available for the European market. Users can search and filter by subspecialty (such as breast or gastrointestinal pathology), modality (e.g., histopathology, cytopathology), regulatory class, or AI platform, making product discovery tailored, efficient, and relevant.

Product Comparison

Each tool is presented with a structured profile that includes its subspecialty, modality, and regulatory details, enabling easy comparison and supporting clinicians and procurement teams in selecting the right solution for their teams.

Regulatory Transparency

Every product clearly displays its IVD(R) classification and FDA status, which are verified by the Health AI Register team, providing essential clarity on compliance and readiness for clinical adoption.

Independent Curation & Credibility

Maintained by Romion Health, the register is independently curated and draws on vendor data, regulatory databases, and peer-reviewed literature, ensuring unbiased, reliable, and trusted information rather than sales-driven listings.

Broad Modality & Specialty Coverage

The platform spans a wide range of pathology sub specialties, from breast and gastrointestinal pathology to hematology and lung, offering broad value to clinicians, researchers, and healthcare systems.

This launch reflects a growing demand for oversight and clarity in health AI deployment. By shining a light on the development and application of AI in pathology, the website is positioned as a trusted reference point for the global medical and research community.

The Health AI Register- Pathology website is now live.
