kitround360, the impact reporting tool developed by circular sports marketplace kitround, has released new data showcasing the significant environmental and social benefits of recommerce in sportswear.
The report follows a six-week collection campaign powered by kitround in partnership with David Lloyd Clubs.
Over 12,300 items from tennis racquets to gym leggings were donated by members across 103 David Lloyd Clubs. The items were processed, and listed for resale on kitround.com.
The kitround360 report revealed that the campaign diverted 2,250kg of sportswear and equipment from landfill, saving an estimated 33,309kg of CO₂e, equivalent to the carbon footprint of manufacturing 41 Peloton bikes.
Luke Freer, Head of Community, David Lloyd Clubs. “We were truly impressed by the detailed insights kitround provided from the campaign’s sustainable and social impact.”
kitround360 also tracks the social value of items sold through the site. In a 2024 proof of concept campaign with Visa, 6,000 donated items helped raise £40,000 for Youth Sport Trust, Football Beyond Borders, and London Irish Foundation demonstrating the dual power of recommerce to reduce waste and increase access to sport.
With plans to introduce the kitround360 service to consumers who buy pregamed kit through the site, kitround founder, Wendy Carter, has highlighted the wider potential the reporting and data generated can have on consumer attitudes to recommerce culture.
“We created kitround360 to make impact tangible. There’s still far too much sportswear ending up in landfill or incinerators. By giving our partners and customers clear, credible data, we’re helping shift attitudes and behaviour towards reuse, redistribution, and more inclusive access to sport.”
The timing couldn’t be more urgent. According to Green Football, over 100,000 tonnes of sportswear are discarded in the UK each year. Meanwhile, ThredUP projects the global resale apparel market will hit $367 billion by 2029, underscoring the opportunity for circular platforms like kitround to lead the way.
