Oxford Business College (OBC) was honoured to welcome renowned author and positive psychology expert, Mr. Tajender Luthra, on the 8th of October 2024, for a highly engaging lecture titled “How Social Media is Killing Our Happiness.” The event attracted a large audience of students and staff, eager to explore the effects of social media on mental wellbeing.
In his thought-provoking talk, Mr. Luthra examined the pervasive influence of social media and smartphones in modern life, addressing how they consume our time, attention, and energy, often leading to a decline in happiness and mental health. He discussed the psychological impact of constant connectivity, drawing attention to the growing concerns over social media addiction and its consequences for wellbeing.
Mr. Luthra, who holds a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Public Policy and specialises in teaching happiness, mental resilience, and finding meaning in life, offered practical strategies to combat social media overuse. His solutions included incorporating self-care practices, engaging in offline activities, and pursuing hobbies like music and sports as effective ways to reduce screen time and restore personal happiness.
The lecture sparked vibrant discussions among attendees, with students and staff actively participating in the session. The event was well-received, leaving participants with valuable insights into fostering a healthier, more balanced relationship with technology in today’s fast-paced world.
