Vanessa puts best foot forward with senior veterinary role

A keen trail runner is aiming to be a key trail blazer after accepting a senior role at a Cambridgeshire vets.

Vanessa Salisbury has been appointed lead vet at the Longstanton practice of Village Vet, which is owned by Linnaeus and has six surgeries across the county.

Vanessa, who graduated from South Africa’s University of Pretoria in 2017, said she was looking forward to leading the talented team at the popular practice.

She said: “As lead vet at Longstanton, I’ll be working both in the day-to-day management of the practice, as well as clinically.

“My first aim is to learn as much about the team and practice as possible and then see how we can build on all their hard work to keep improving the care and service we provide to our clients, at the same time as running the practice as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the wonderful team at both Longstanton and across the Village Vet sites in Cambridgeshire and seeing how my leadership can help the team and practice thrive.

“I’m also looking forward to learning a lot from the lead vet role itself, as well as from the rest of the team and our clients.”

Vanessa began her career in South Africa and spent a year working in a mixture of welfare and state veterinary practices.

She then moved to the UK and started working in small animal practice, initially in a small practice close to Ipswich, and then in a busy 24-hour hospital in Cambridgeshire.

Away from work, Vanessa is keen on the outdoors, adding: “I’m a keen trail runner and love finding mountains to scramble up, although around Cambridge I’ve learnt it’s much more fun to get about on a bicycle!

“I also really enjoy travelling and exploring new places and meeting new people.”
