Leeds boxer Abu Bakr Hussain claimed the Yorkshire belt in emphatic fashion on Saturday night after a dominant stoppage victory over George Lines at the Scarborough Cricket Ground marquee.
Hussain, who is sponsored by Abu Bakr Supermarket and trains at the respected Purge Gym in Batley, faced Lines of the renowned Paul Ingle Boxing Academy in one of two Yorkshire belt contests on a packed evening of amateur boxing featuring talent from across the region and beyond.
The event showcased top-class action from schoolboys through to senior fighters, but it was Hussain who stole the headlines with a powerful display that forced the referee to stop the contest in the final round.
From the opening bell, Hussain applied relentless pressure and showcased his sharp combinations, strength and composure against a tough and highly-rated opponent. As the fight wore on, his power proved decisive, with the referee stepping in during the closing stages to halt the bout.
The victory marks another major milestone in the rise of one of Leeds’ most exciting young boxing talents.
