Step into an intimate “living room” atmosphere for a weekend of Klezmer music and Yiddish song, featuring a soul-stirring concert and a community-wide sing-along led by world-class Jewish diasporic musicians.
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) invites the community to step into the “warmth of the living room” for a soulful weekend of Jewish diasporic music. On Friday, April 24, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the acclaimed trio A Glezele Tey will perform an intimate concert, followed by a hands-on Yiddish Song Workshop and Sing-Along on Saturday, April 25.
Based in Massachusetts and New York, A Glezele Tey—featuring Ariel Shapiro, Rachel Leader, and Richie Barshay—is a premier ensemble dedicated to klezmer, Yiddish folk song, and traditional Ashkenazi prayers. Their music centers the voices of women and gender-non-conforming people, drawing from historical recordings to inspire a frayer velt—a freer world.
“This is a rare opportunity to experience world-class klezmer in a setting that feels like a gathering of neighbors,” says Claire K. Landis, BMCA Program Coordinator. “From the intricate accordion and violin to the world-renowned percussion of Richie Barshay, this weekend is about deep care, ritual, and the joy of collective song.”
An Immersive Weekend of Culture:
- The Concert (Friday, April 24, 7:30 PM): An enthralling performance featuring original melodies and traditional tkhines. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
- The Workshop & Zingeray (Saturday, April 25, 3:00 PM): A high-energy sing-along and educational workshop. Participants of all ages will explore the “Yiddish Renaissance” with live accompaniment. No prior knowledge of Yiddish or professional singing experience is required.
In keeping with BMCA’s mission of accessibility and inclusivity, the Saturday workshop is offered on a sliding scale ($18–$36), ensuring everyone can be a pART of the arts.
