Wolverhampton digital agency opens its doors to university student.

A fast growing digital, animation and live streaming agency has welcomed a university student on a one-year paid work placement to offer valuable insight and experience in the digital media industry.

Wolverhampton based Stone’s Throw Media has welcomed Sarah Elashmawi, an illustration and animation student from Coventry University on a one-year internship.

During her internship Sarah will have the opportunity to experience all areas of the business from editing, speaking to clients and helping to create content.

Stone’s Throw Media founders Matt Weston and Mike Chinn have created a positive organisational culture that supports work-related learning. They want to provide young learners outside of London with the opportunity to thrive and begin their career in digital media in the Black Country region.

Sarah said: “I’m originally from Cairo in Egypt and moved to the UK in 2017. Growing up I always wanted to be a cartoonist and would spend hours watching various animation shows and films such as the Japanese Studio Ghibli cartoons.

“My degree is a four-year course with a one- year work placement between my second and fourth year. I began searching for work placement over a year ago and contacted Stone’s Throw Media directly to ask if they had any internship opportunities.

“The business is very inspiring, I have already been involved in storyboarding, editing a script, working on client feedback and using some of the illustrator software.

“Stone’s Throw have opened my eyes to the different animation roles available to me when I complete my degree. It’s been great to use some of the skills I already have and my goal at the end of my internship is to have a little more certainty and direction about what I want to do in the future.

Stone’s Throw Media co-founder Matt Weston added:

“As a former university student myself, I understand the reality of gaining meaningful work experience in the digital media sector outside of the major cities.

“We see huge benefits in opening our doors to students looking to build on their experience as they embark on their career in the industry.

“Throughout the next 12 months we hope to provide Sarah with as many opportunities as possible to learn and develop, whilst having a positive impact on the business.”

Stone’s Throw Media was launched in 2011 by founders Mike Chinn and Matt Weston after they met on a University of Wolverhampton media course. The founders bill Stone’s Throw Media as being for clients “looking to grow” through video, animation and livestreaming events, with staffing growing to ten this year as revenues and profits grew to new highs.

Based at Wolverhampton Science Park, Stone’s Throw, whose clients include leading brands JLR, Briggs, Greene King and the City of Wolverhampton College, were named as small business of the year at the 2022 Express & Star Apprenticeship Awards.
