Top 35 Accounting Firm BHP streamlines compliance and boosts operational efficiency with First AML

  • First AML transforms BHP’s compliance process, freeing up valuable time and providing a sense of security

London, UK; 8th February 2023: BHP, one of the largest independent firms of Chartered Accountants in the North of England, has chosen anti-money laundering tech platform First AML to streamline compliance and boost operational efficiency as it scales rapidly.

Founded over 150 years ago, BHP has a long reputation for being a top 35 UK accounting firm, and is an influential voice in the wider Kreston Global network. Before First AML, BHP required several members to complete a single customer onboarding. The process was time intensive, with senior members of staff having to request identification documents and advise on identification checks.

Meanwhile, BHP has experienced enormous growth in the past ten years, with the company expanding from two offices to five across Yorkshire and the North East Derbyshire, and its headcount doubling. With stellar growth and the escalating drain on time and resource, the BHP team needed an offering that provided operational efficiencies. BHP chose First AML after identifying the company as the best solution on the market for streamlining compliance.

Howard Ringrose, Partner and MLRO at BHP, commented: “First AML was different. It offered a better solution because it expedites the checks through a proven methodology, saving us time. That was more than a subtle difference – that was a big difference. And because we’re growing and needing to do more and more checks, it was worth investing in a solution like this. We now have a real sense of security when it comes to compliance, but we also have a lot more time to focus on enhancing other parts of the business. This is crucial as we continue on our growth trajectory.”

Simon Luke, UK Country Manager at First AML, added: “The accounting industry remains an attractive target for money launderers, who are looking to find ways of making their funds legitimate. However, being compliant shouldn’t come at the expense of drained resources, especially time. With our support, BHP is able to focus on supporting its clients while removing any grey areas when it comes to anti-money laundering checks.”
