Stunning Georgian home on sale for £2m

One of only two fine Georgian residences left in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter is ready to create a new slice of history after undergoing a meticulous restoration.

Old Heaton House has been rescued from more than 100 years of neglect and transformed into a beautiful five-bedroom home.

The house, which is the centrepiece of Elevate Property Group’s regeneration of the site in Camden Street, is now on the market with a guide price of £2million.

Just three years ago the house was in ruins and engulfed by old and rundown industrial buildings. After a painstaking and sympathetic restoration, it is now an opulent residence with many period features harking back to the elegance of the Georgian era.

Steve Dodd, managing director of Elevate Property Group, said: “Once the surrounding dilapidated industrial buildings had been demolished I don’t think anyone thought that Heaton House could be saved.

“It was barely a shell and in a chronic state of disrepair, demolition of such a rare building in the Conservation Area was not an option and so we fully embraced the task of the restoration.

“It’s been a labour of love for all the skilled craftspeople who have worked on it, and we’re very proud of the finished result.”

The house was originally built in 1823 for William Cotterill, a wealthy Birmingham merchant of high status. It was originally set in its own landscaped park, but a century of industrial activity around the site had left the house in poor condition and engulfed by industrial buildings.

Elevate cleared the area and have restored the Georgian house to its prime, with the apartments and townhouses sympathetically developed around it to reflect the local history and architecture while bringing 21st century standards of quality and luxury.

David Hofton, sales director at Elevate said “Old Heaton House is at the heart of the wider Heaton House development of 14 townhouses and 42 one and two-bedroom apartments. The new homes combine the very best of city centre living with a high specification quality finish”.

The site is just a short walk from the popular bars and restaurants in the heart of the sought-after Jewellery Quarter, which was named one of the best places to live in the Midlands by the Sunday Times.

Old Heaton House boasts an impressive reception hall with stone staircase, two grand reception rooms, a superb kitchen with island, adjoining laundry room, cloak room and WC.

The principal bedroom is enormous with an incredible feature ceiling, walk in dressing room and ensuite.  There is a guest bedroom suite and three further double bedrooms, and a stunning family bathroom with a free-standing bath.

Old Heaton House has a large garage to the side and a terrace to the rear, and there is a private gated entrance and parking.

Old Heaton House is for sale through Maguire Jackson.
