Leading specialist online auction site, Car & Classic is celebrating the success of its ‘no reserve’ auctions with a special ‘No Reserve Night’ featuring a series of attractive listings ending on December 6th. Recent data collated by the digital trading platform highlights the benefits of offering cars without a reserve figure set, proven to generate a greater level of interest from bidders and netting sellers premium sale prices.
The fresh findings reveal that, on average, Car & Classic auctions with no reserve receive 92 per cent more views, 50 per cent more bids and get a six per cent higher sale price than vehicles with a reserve figure in place. Three recent examples underlining the trend include a 1965 Mercedes-Benz W113 SL that sold for £73,250 against an estimate of £65,000, a 1954 Jaguar XK120 Coupé which accelerated ahead of its £35,000 appraisal to make £45,000, and a 1955 Austin Healey 100/4 BN1 which brought the virtual hammer down at a whopping £14,250 above its £35,000 calculation.
Amongst the exciting ‘No Reserve Night’ auction listings starting on November 29th and ending on December 6th, come a raft of classics collectively spanning a 70 year period. One of the oldest stars is a meticulously restored 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL that has covered just 926 miles since restoration, the remarkable right-hand drive example is believed to have been kept by just three families during its lifetime. Moving ahead by one decade reveals a rare 1967 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint, resident in France since new, it is one of only 6999 produced.
The 1970s are well represented on this night to remember. A 1972 Volkswagen T2 Baywindow Campervan is ready for adventure at festivals or popular holiday spots, while the brashness of the 1980s is illustrated by a 1987 Bentley Eight, the hand-built V8 British brute one of only 1736 ever built. Of the plentiful 1990s and 2000s era offerings, a 48,940 mile 1997 Porsche Boxster 2.5-litre manual stands out, finished in the launch colour scheme of Arctic Silver with a full red leather interior, it is a picture perfect modern classic.
“Recent analysis carried out by our team from thousands of auctions undertaken by Car & Classic since 2020, shows that auctions set with ‘no reserve’ perform especially well,” says Car & Classic head of editorial Dale Vinten. “Our inaugural ‘No Reserve Night’ champions sellers who balance risk with reward, we have no doubt that it will generate a great deal of interest from eager buyers keen to snap up a cool classic before Christmas.”
