This month marks the launch of PolarBear, a new online software solution for storing, managing and communicating sustainability data. Designed and built by independent data consultancy Ferrier Mills, PolarBear promotes a forward-looking, integrated approach to ESG strategy and is suitable for organisations of all sizes.
The platform allows organisations to manage ESG KPIs, goals, disclosures, investments, policies and risks across several interlinking modules. A ‘whole system modelling’ approach, facilitated by central linking functionality, promotes visibility and cohesion across the platform by allowing interdependent elements to be connected. The platform is further underpinned by 36 ESG topics, capturing all sustainability themes an organisation may need to address.

PolarBear’s launch follows a successful beta period involving the likes of blue economy project developer Simply Blue Group, and an international construction company, digital marketing agency and national provider of permanent and temporary modular buildings, site accommodation and off-grid power solutions, Wernick Group.
Alexis Massey, Group Sustainability Manager of Wernick Group, stated: “The beta testing opportunity allowed me to pilot the platform for Wernick Group and to look at the wider sustainability application for not only accounting our carbon emissions but for a wider array of environmental and social measures. The tool also allows for a bottom-up approach to be developed for an organisation, from producing a sustainability maturity matrix to then informing policy and taking the relevant action to measure and continually improve performance.”
