Helping Hand: Learning Disability Charity Receives Donation From Northamptonshire Homebuilder

Spectrum Northants, a charity which specialises in helping those who have learning disabilities, has received a £1,000 donation from Northampton-based housebuilder David Wilson Homes to assist with its work.

The charity supports adults with learning disabilities and operates two skills, training and education centres and a charity shop in Northampton. Spectrum Northants places emphasis on improving independent living skills, training, education, confidence and wellbeing, and tailors activities to the interests of each individual.

The contribution from the leading housebuilder will help the charity continue to make improvements to the outdoor areas at its centres in Northampton Town Centre  and Duston,  which in turn improves the facilities for its service users and increases its capacity for horticulture and food growing.

Mark Mitchell, Chairman of Spectrum Northants, said: “We were delighted to receive the contact and news of the donation from David Wilson Homes, it was a wonderful surprise.

“The donation will support our plans to increase awareness on healthy living and in particular “how to grow your own food” among those who attend Spectrum. Through this initiative, we will enable each individual to make informed choices to improve their wellbeing.

“David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund Scheme is a great example of corporate social responsibility in action, and one which is much needed by the charitable sector. We would like to say a big thank you to David Wilson Homes for supporting local charities like ourselves, it really does make a difference.”

Spectrum Northants offers a range of services to those with learning difficulties, mental health struggles, and Autism and Asperger’s, for example, developing independent living through lessons in practical cookery, money management, and home safety.

John Dillon, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Spectrum Northants a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
