Afro Hair and Beauty Retailer ready for growth

Popular London based afro hair and beauty retailer, Pak Cosmetics, announces 24% growth objective for 2024 in its UK online business www.pakcosmetics.com and www.pakwholesale.com. The Pak’s business which was setup by four brothers in the 1980’s has seen remarkable growth over the past fifteen years with dedicated afro haircare products, hair extensions, specialist hair treatments and colourful wigs lining the High streets of Peckham, Wood Green, Kilburn, Harlesden, Dagenham and Finsbury Park where the business livens up these areas with their supermarket style hair and beauty retail stores. Peter Mudahy CEO of the Pak Group which oversees all 25 of the Pak Cosmetics retail stores, the various Pak Cosmetics online platforms and the Pak’s import, export business gave us an insight into the 2024 growth objectives.

“Traditionally, Pak Cosmetics has been a brick and mortar destination business that has welcomed millions of customers to our various retail stores from across the UK, Europe and Africa looking for specialist afro, textured, curly hair products but as the digital shopping world evolves, we have seen the needs and shopping experiences of the afro consumer also evolve”, explains Peter. “I remember when we had one person, stood behind the counter taking orders over the telephone, picking and shipping orders”. “Today that job is done by a team of about 30, pickers, packers and e-commerce professionals, as a retail business, we have invested in developing a conducive digital infrastructure, the competes through digital marketing funnel, dispatching around 2,000 online orders daily, from our 100,00sqft distribution centre in Essex”. “We feel comfortable that we have got a smooth online fulfilment service operational and want to now scale up to handle a wider portfolio of beauty products and service a wide cohort of beauty customers giving the growth we need to scale up in the UK online beauty market”.

From its 100sqft distribution centre in Harlow, Essex Pak cosmetics look ready for growth.

Pak Cosmetic is a iconic UK retailers of afro, textured, curly hair care product and beauty product specific to the African, Caribbean consumer. The Pak Cosmetics retail stores are traditionally seen as a one stop shop of black hair and beauty products in the UK. The Pak Cosmetics business is mostly run by South Asians with the exception of Pak Cosmetics CEO Peter Mudahy, whom is of Jamaican heritage and has a historic career in the black haircare industry having worked previously, for Loreal, Worlds of Curls in the USA and beauty brand Black Like Me in South Africa. In 2023 the Pak Cosmetics online distribution centre was visited by the Minister for Trade, Industry and Investment in Jamaica Aubyn Hill and Judith Slater the British High Commissioner to Jamaica who while touring the UK on a trade mission, took time out to help Pak Cosmetics pick and pack orders of authentic Jamaica Black Castor Oil skin products.
