Cambridge Charity Receives £1,000 Donation From Local Homebuilder

Cambridge Samaritans have received a £1,000 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to assist with their work helping people maintain their mental health.

The Samaritans are a registered charity aimed at providing emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide throughout Great Britain and Ireland.

Celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year, the branch is open almost 24 hours a day, seven days a week and of course, including Christmas and New Year.

Brenda Bond, Branch Director and Fundraiser at Cambridge Samaritans, said: “It’s wonderful to receive a gift donation out of the blue. Applying for funds takes a lot of work and energy which we would love to spend on providing our services to so many people in need of a trained volunteer to actively listen to them without judgement or direction.

“The pandemic was very difficult for us, we had to learn very quickly how to apply for grants and other sources of income just to pay the bills. We have achieved this and more, and are now gradually building our outreach work back up as the risk decreases.

“On behalf of Cambridge Samaritans, we would like to say thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes, we’re genuinely grateful. We are about to launch a ‘Diamond Foundation’ project to celebrate our anniversary and to help the branch to become more sustainable for the long term

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Cambridge Samaritans a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
