UKCM Hosts Charity Golf Day in Aid of Hospice

Colleagues at leading container repair and refurbishment company UK Container Maintenance (UKCM), have hosted and participated in an all-day charitable golf challenge in aid of KEMP Hospice.

The company’s customers, both old and new, came from far and wide for the highly anticipated tournament, raising £1000 for the hospice based in the heart of the Wyre Forest, which offers specialist care and support to those affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement. With Andrew Malone playing a key part with his vast organisational golf day skills, eighteen teams consisting of sixty-five players took to the course at Kidderminster Golf Club, one of Worcestershire’s premier courses, for which UKCM had exclusive use.

With team and individual prizes to play for, the tournament got underway with a shotgun start which saw all teams tee off simultaneously from different holes. Refreshments were perfectly positioned throughout, including an ice-cream van at the first tee, a ‘half-way house’ and a travelling golf buggy offering cold and hot drinks.

Following a day of intense competition, the players gathered for the prize-giving presentation and evening meal; waste management company Grundon was triumphant in securing the overall team trophy and Alan Smith of Colchester Skip Hire was commended with the coveted individual prize handed out by none other than Olympic Athlete Derek Redmond and Waste Heavyweight Andrew Malone.

Mark Roberts, Technical Director at UKCM commented, “The golf day was a huge success and the perfect opportunity to raise much-needed funds and awareness for such a worthy cause. We have received fantastic feedback from players that joined us from across the length and breadth of the country, and it’s certainly something that we will be looking to host on an annual basis.”

Emma Elston MBE CEO at UKCM added, “Both the team at UKCM and our customers had a brilliant day raising money for charity. The KEMP Hospice is a truly remarkable organisation that offers specialist care and services to patients, families and carers who are dealing with life-limiting illnesses and bereavement, and we are proud to support them. We are very passionate about supporting charity and following the success of this year’s event, we look forward to the next.”

Established in 1998, UKCM, the UK’s largest family-owned container repair and refurbishment company is dedicated to the refurbishment of all types of waste and recycling containers. UKCM works across the country offering waste companies and local authorities’ mobile repairs, as well as factory-based services at its head office located in Winsford, Cheshire.

The process brings old, and often unwanted, waste containers back to life instead of them going to scrap. The business model – refurbishment over replacement – is simple and for a third of the price of replacing a container, UKCM can restore the unit to full working order.
