Top security firm recognised with Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award

The UK’s fastest-growing security company has been presented with the highest badge of honour in recognition of its continued support of the armed forces.

Swindon-based SSGC has been presented with the prestigious gold award from the Employer Recognition Scheme, which identifies businesses that provide exceptional support to the armed forces community by going above and beyond their covenant pledges.

David Stubbs, CEO of SSGC and a military veteran himself, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and rubber-stamps our long-standing commitment to the armed forces community through the years.

“We signed the Armed Forces Covenant pledge in 2020 but our support extends far beyond that – and for much longer than that. It’s more than just a financial commitment for us and we all take a personal responsibility to address issues at the heart of the armed forces community every day.

“Today, we offer veterans an unprecedented chance to rebuild their lives after serving in the forces, be it support with handling PTSD or helping them with the tools they need to use utilise their skillset in a new industry.”

Former military policeman Keith Horemans is a prime example of an armed forces veteran who has been supported and empowered by SSGC. Keith was recruited by SSGC in 2021 and is now leading on several initiatives as its armed forces champion, all aimed towards improving the lives and wellbeing of veterans around the country.

Keith said: “I have had a tremendous journey with SSGC and have really enjoyed putting policies and procedures together, all of which have made a difference to veterans and their families around the country.

“The team at SSGC really went above and beyond in helping me settle in and overcome the challenges I faced since returning home. I am incredibly grateful for it all. This award really is a testament to SSGC’s fantastic work and I cannot wait to see what’s next in store.”

In 2020, SSGC was deployed to monitor and marshal the Government’s Covid-19 testing sites on behalf of Serco and the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

As well as its commitment to its own staff, SSGC also supports Mission Motorsport as its chosen charity partner, so far donating more than £50,000 to the organisation which works with wounded, injured or sick (WIS) service leavers and veterans.

Notes to editors

SSGC is one of the UK’s most advanced security guarding companies. Holding SIA Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) status, the business, formed from an MBO in 2014, has also become one of the fastest growing security businesses in the UK based upon its niche capabilities and the development of a suite of technologies which make the management of a manned security service easier. SSGC has signed the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) as a commitment to the Armed Forces community and employs several veterans as part of its highly-skilled team. Automated vetting capability allows the rapid scaling of personnel, while SSGC is fully industry compliant and holds all the relevant industry accreditation under the Security Industry Act and will not schedule an officer without having the correct documentation for BS7858. It is also fully aligned with lone worker protection regulations, GDPR and HSE legislation. As a result of its rigorous vetting, work ethic and capabilities, SSGC is now ranked in the top 30 of security companies in the UK.
