As experts in fermented water kefir, having launched their award-winning PiQi brand of kefir in 2021, founders Aksana Fitzpatrick and Nick Young wanted to expand the benefits of fermentation into skincare.
Water kefir is a raw fermented, probiotic beverage traditionally consumed for its health benefits. Water kefir is naturally packed with nutrients and contains live probiotic cultures (mainly LAB – lactic acid bacteria) and organic acids, which are good for gut health and skin health alike.
PiQi’s soaps are based on nourishing olive oil and water kefir. The fermented probiotic water kefir naturally contains organic acids including gluconic and lactic acids which act as gentle exfoliants helping remove dead skin cells and stimulate cell renewal, leaving skin feeling hydrated, smooth and refreshed. They are gentle, creamy and moisturising, perfect for all skin types, as well as being suitable for both face and body.
Many people associate kefir with dairy products, but water kefir provides a sustainable vegan alternative which, combined with the fact that PiQi’s kefir soaps are palm-oil free and handcrafted in the UK (Devon), means that they are also a planet-friendly option.
Co-founder Aksana said: “We are so excited to be expanding our range into skincare. Water kefir is such a wonderful, healthy and versatile product, we’re loving that the benefits of fermentation can now be felt and seen on the outside, as well as being so good for you on the inside.”

An irresistible blend of zesty orange and warm cinnamon, this luxurious vegan kefir soap is crafted with fig-infused fermented water kefir and is rich in organic acids and nourishing vitamins and minerals. The zesty and refreshing scent of orange essential oil is perfectly balanced by the warm and spicy notes of cinnamon, creating a delightful and uplifting aroma.
