Cloud Gateway Sponsors UK Police Ladies Football Team

Cloud Gateway, a provider of flexible networking and security services to the public and private sectors, announces that it has partnered with the UK Police Ladies Football Team.

As part of the year-long partnership, Cloud Gateway will become one of the team’s main shirt sponsors and look to raise awareness of the important roles women play in sport.

Rachel McElroy, Marketing Director at Cloud Gateway, explained why Cloud Gateway felt so passionate about supporting the ladies football team: “Women’s football is still underfunded and under-represented in comparison to men’s sport and sadly technology also suffers from the same lack of gender inequality. As a technology company with a high female representation in our workforce, we felt this was a great opportunity to support something we really believe in. It’s an issue that demands action and our partnership with the GB Police Ladies Football Club deepens our commitment to making sure women have the equal opportunity to participate, irrespective of gender.”

The women’s team, which is run on a voluntary basis, comprises a mixture of police officers and staff who dedicate their own time and finances to attend training and matches. The youngest member of the team is 21 years old and players have a vast geographical spread with representatives from Scotland, The Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police and Police Service Northern Ireland. Cloud Gateway’s sponsorship is announced as the team finishes its final training camp at FA headquarters St Georges Park, before heading off to the European Police Championships in Norway this month. They are managed by Michelle Gregory from Northumbria police who has dedicated many years of time to ensuring that women in the police can play football and have an outlet for all the benefits it brings.

“Football is a great way to keep physically fit but it’s also of huge benefit on the job, helping to provide a release from the daily pressures serving as a police officer can have on your mental health. Our time here (St Georges Park) provided such a professional environment for the team, inspiring the women to do well in their tournaments, while representing their countries and police forces. The ability to network, build trust and confidence is not only an opportunity for personal development but also something the women can take to the communities they serve,” commented Claire McDougall-Robinson FA Women’s High Performance Centre Coach Development Officer Women’s and Girls Northumbria University.

“Cloud Gateway is proud to have joined forces with Agilisys and Niche RMS to sponsor the team and provide the players with custom-made ladies kits. It’s a lesson for us all; just because a sector is under-represented it doesn’t mean you have anything less to offer,” concludes Moira Roberts, Business Development Manager at Cloud Gateway.
