Cambridgeshire School Receives Hedgehog Homes From Housebuilder To Help Prickly Pursuit

Cambridgeshire housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated a number of hedgehog homes to a Trumpington school for National Hedgehog Awareness Week (1st – 7th May) to help reverse the decline of the species.

National Hedgehog Awareness Week is organised annually by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and aims to highlight the issues hedgehogs face, whilst providing solutions for what people can do to support them.

Following the society’s suggestion to buy or build a hedgehog home, David Wilson Homes donated two of the habitats to Trumpington Meadows Primary School, located on its Trumpington Meadows development on Hauxton Road.

Richard Taylor, Caretaker and Lettings Manager at Trumpington Federation, said: “We are very grateful for this donation as hopefully these homes will provide a safe place for the hedgehogs and an opportunity for the pupils to study their habitats.”

As of July 2020, the British hedgehog has been officially classified as vulnerable to extinction, meaning it is more important than ever to protect our prickly neighbours.

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder, we know that home is where the heart is and that’s true for all types of residents, human or otherwise!

“We hope our donation will give hedgehogs a new and safe home at Trumpington Meadows School, whilst also encouraging the pupils to consider the wildlife near their own homes.”

The idyllic location of Trumpington Meadows is a short walk away from an array of amenities including a traditional village pub, shops plus a wealth of leisure facilities.

This prestigious new address lies on the edge of the 148-acre Trumpington Meadow Country Park where you can explore and enjoy the intriguing walkways and areas of green open spaces.
