Anthesis appoints Lucy Gugen to lead new strategic and impact communications solution

Anthesis Group, the world’s largest group of dedicated sustainability professionals and certified B Corp, has appointed strategic communications expert Lucy Gugen to lead its Strategic & Impact Communications solution.  Anthesis has expanded its communication capabilities in response to the changing landscape.  With the rise in climate litigation, and accusations of greenwashing, the need for organisations to communicate with authenticity and accountability is vital as they seek to define and articulate their impact.

Lucy will combine her 18 years of experience across politics, business and civil society, advising leaders and companies on how to deliver lasting organisational and reputational change with the scientific depth of knowledge rooted in Anthesis’ 1,100 experts to empower clients to navigate the communications minefield of reputation and regulatory risks.

Lucy has previously held leadership roles at advisory and communications firms Freuds and Brunswick, as well as acting as an advisor to former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, and as a Director of COP26 at the World Council for Sustainable Business Development.  She has advised companies including BlackRock, UBS, Mars, EY, and Syngenta, and her experience across FMCG, financial services, pharma, telecoms, and energy sectors align strongly with Anthesis’ broad and global client base, which includes 25% of the FTSE 100.

Commenting on Lucy’s appointment, Stuart McLachlan, CEO of Anthesis, said, “We want our clients to be able to communicate with confidence, drive industry ambition and build much-needed trust with stakeholders.  Lucy’s role in leading strategic & impact communications will further expand upon our work acknowledging aspects of communications through impactful corporate narratives and positioning, education and stakeholder engagement strategies, and best-in-class sustainability reports to enable us to better protect clients and their aspirations.”

Lucy Gugen, also commented, “I am thrilled to be joining Anthesis Group at such an exciting point in its journey.  The ESG and sustainability landscape is continually evolving, with demands on companies only becoming more complicated.  Against this backdrop, the unique mix of deep technical and strategic expertise offered by Anthesis will allow us to position, promote and protect our clients as they seek to engage and communicate with stakeholders.”

Lucy’s appointment reinforces Anthesis’ ongoing dedication towards impact, reflected in its recent recognition as a top impact company by the 2023 Real Leaders Impact Awards, placing 100 out of 200 globally renowned purpose-driven businesses driving positive impact whilst achieving impressive business growth.  The accolade follows several recent shortlistings at the Edie Awards 2023, with Anthesis shortlisted for the Consultancy of the Year award, CEO Stuart McLachlan shortlisted as Sustainability Leader of the Year, and Hanna Westling (Anthesis Sweden) and Justin Imiola (Anthesis North America) both shortlisted as Rising Sustainability Star.  The winners of the awards will be announced in March 2023.
